The Power of Simplicity

Adapted from, Be The Best at What Matters Most

Unifying a team around a shared purpose and empowering them to improve their performance around that purpose becomes infinitely easier when the objectives are simple.

Simple is more powerful and more effective than complicated. The more complicated you’ve made your organization, the less effective you will be. Complication freezes you into uncertainty and inaction. Simplicity enables you to get everyone focused on a shared vision, goal, or priorities and move forward.

Does every single person in your program have absolute clarity of focus about what is most important for them to accomplish in their jobs every single day? Do you?

The Four Seasons of School Culture leadership model brings the Power of Simplicity to your school year and leadership program.

It’s very simple: we’ve taken the entire year and broken it down into 4 manageable “chunks of time”! For example:

  1. Season of Start: the purpose of this season is to simply build relationships and connections within the members of your leadership program. This season runs from June thru August. Every activity or event during this season has ONE SIMPLE GOAL…to build connection within.
  2. Season of Spirit: the purpose of this season is to simply infusion the campus with fun. This season runs from September thru November. Every activity or event during this season has ONE SIMPLE GOAL…to create excitement.
  3. Season of Service: the purpose of this season is to simply serve our class, campus, and community. This season runs from December thru February. Every activity or event during this season has ONE SIMPLE GOAL…to serve others.
  4. Season of Shine: the purpose of this season is to simply shine the spotlight on staff and students. This season runs from March thru May. Every activity or event during this season has ONE SIMPLE GOAL…to acknowledge and recognize staff and students.

Another way we’ve tried to simplify Leadership Programs across the country is to create PASSION Teams instead of having numerous, outdated committees. Let me show you want I mean:

SOUND/SPIRIT Team: an essential function of a member of this team is to CREATE Spirit on-campus that others will HEAR!

OUTREACH Team: an essential function of a member of this team is to CREATE Recognition on-campus that others will FEEL!

DESIGN Team: an essential function of a member of this team is to CREATE Decorations on-campus that others will SEE!

ACTIVITIES Team: an essential function of a member of this team is to CREATE events on campus that others will DO!

I hope this post helps you and your student leaders bring a sense of simplicity to the PURPOSE of your program!

Take care,

Stephen
